PM Modi Honoured with Namibia’s Top Civilian Award During Historic Visit
In a landmark diplomatic gesture, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was presented with Namibia’s highest civilian honour, the Order of the Most Ancient Welwitschia Mirabilis, during his first official visit to the country on July 9, 2025. The award was conferred by Namibian President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah in the capital city, Windhoek.
This prestigious recognition marks Modi’s 27th international award since taking office in 2014, reflecting India’s deepening ties with nations across the globe. The ceremony took place as part of his final stop on a five-nation diplomatic tour aimed at enhancing global partnerships.
During the visit, both leaders engaged in high-level bilateral discussions. The two countries signed four new agreements aimed at strengthening cooperation in key sectors such as renewable energy, healthcare, education, and digital infrastructure.
PM Modi’s visit is only the third by an Indian Prime Minister to Namibia, underscoring the significance of this engagement in expanding India-Africa strategic ties.
